2009 Bark Around the Park

This year is the 20th Annual Bark Around the Park!

When:
Saturday, April 18th, from 11:00am until 3:00pm
Where:Millbrook Exchange Park, 1905 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh
What:Sponsor exhibits, Vendor exhibits, Adoption Opportunities, Contests, Giveaways, and MORE!

 

 
 

Bark Around the Park began in 1990 as an opportunity for local non-profits and rescue groups to share their information with the public. The event has grown substantially over the years and is one of Raleigh's largest, free dog events.

Please come by the Friends of Millbrook Dog Park booth and say "Hi!"

Here's some of the dog-related events that are scheduled:

Flying Disk Contest

Warm Up: 11:00am – 12:00pm
Competition: 12:30pm – 2:00pm


Dog Bone Hunts

12:30pm & 2:00pm
No registration required


Doggie Olympics  

11:30am: 25M Sprints
11:45am: Come and Get It!
12:00pm: Doggie High Jump
12:15pm: Hectic Hurdles
12:30pm: 100M Relay

In the 25M Sprints, dogs race 25 meters. The dog with the fastest time wins. Dogs must be on the leash and the owners run with the dogs.

Come and Get It is a 25 meter race. Dogs race to pick up a tennis ball and return to the starting line. The dog with the fastest time wins. Dogs will be on the leash with their owners running with them.

Doggie High Jump - Dogs jump over a bar with the bar set at different heights. Competition starts with short heights and progresses to higher. To move onto the next level, dogs must clear each bar without hitting the bar. The dog that jumps the highest height wins the competition. Dogs will be on the leash with their owners. Owners do not have to jump.

Hectic Hurdles - Dogs race 25 meters and jump over three sets of hurdles. The dog that jumps over each hurdle without knocking down the cones and with the fastest time wins. Dogs will be on the leash with their owners but the owners do not have to jump the hurdles!
100 M relay - This competition is between teams of two dogs plus owners.  The first dog runs 50 meters and then the second dog runs 50 meters. The team finishing with the fastest time wins. Dogs will be on the leash with their owners.

Pet/Owner Look Alike Contest

1:00pm: Do you look like your dog or does your dog look like you?


Dog Show

Start time: 1:30pm

Competitions for the following categories:  

  • Best Beggar
  • Smallest Dog
  • Best Dressed
  • Largest Dog
  • Coolest Trick

Bark Around the Park is a fun event for dogs and humans so please come out and enjoy a great dog-friendly event!!!

Dogs must remain on-leash at all times.

The most difficult part of maintaining our website is continually finding new material to present to our dog park population. We need dog pictures for the Mug Shots section, news, and information on upcoming events in our area. We welcome all submissions; however, we cannot guarantee that we'll post everything we receive. If you are sending in your dog's picture, be sure to include the dog's name, date of birth or date of adoption, and age when the picture was taken. Send your submissions to:
